Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex)

Website

Facts:
  • Ubuntu comes with Gnome desktop
  • Ubuntu is a Debian based distribution
  • Ubuntu is a full bodied distro that is arguably the most popular Linux distro in the world

What I liked:
  • The classy Ubuntu look (I happen to like brown) and an improvement over Heron's look
  • Ubuntu is new-user friendly
  • I had no problems with the live CD whatsoever, no hangups or starting issues which is often an issue
  • Internet connection detected right away, no fuss

What I didn't like:
  • I felt there were few applications for the size of the live CD
  • F-Spot crashed and nearly crashed the live CD session
  • I felt there could have been fewer games and more apps

Summary:
I felt that this version of Ubuntu is not that much different from the last. I didn't get that much of a 'different' vibe from it, although I didn't test everything. But of course, my requirements are for ease of use for the new user, so I would have to give it a B+ for looks, an A- for use..all in all, a very newbie friendly distro as Ubuntu is known for.
