Linux Mint-  Excellent distro for the brand new-bie
Debian GNU/Linux-  This is the distro that started it all for me and probably the most stable Linux distro in existence.
Mandriva Linux-  Formerly known as Mandrake, this distro is quite popular, especially with the Linuxers in Europe. Very newbie friendly and reliable.
