Facts:- Fedora 10 comes with Gnome desktop
- Fedora is sponsored by Red Hat, one of the longest running distros and responsible for the .rpm file
- Fedora is what Linus Torvalds uses!
What I liked:
- I felt that this distro would be the easiest for a Windows refugee to pick up on and be familiar with
- Beautiful splash screen artwork and lovely desktop
- Gnome stability and ease of use
- Internet connection detected right away, no fuss
What I didn't like:
- I was surprised that Open Office and Thunderbird were both missing from the apps list
- I couldn't believe how long it took for the live CD to load and run, 20 minutes total!! That, for me, was a major deal-breaker
- The live CD shut down with my optical drive still open! That was really annoying.
Summary:I felt that this version of Fedora is not that much different from Ubuntu as far as distros go. There were some important differences that made it superior to Ubuntu in new-user friendliness. My biggest impression of Fedora was "hmm, so what is all the hype about?" I would have to give it a B+ for looks, but a C for use considering how long it took to load but after that a B+ for newbie-friendliness..all in all, a very newbie friendly distro and really good for the new Linux user.
